Mr Barrow fell from Swirral Edge into Brown Cove

The walker who fell to his death on Helvellyn on Saturday has been named.

David Barrow, 63, of Widnes, Cheshire, fell 300m (1,000ft) after going to the aid of a companion who had fallen a short distance from Swirral Edge.

The two men fell into Brown Cove and a third walker in the group was helped from the mountain by a member of the public.

Five mountain rescue teams and a Sea King helicopter from RAF Boulmer joined the rescue operation and Mr Barrow was airlifted to Cumbria Infirmary in Carlisle, but died of his injuries.
