A walker was rescued after slipping and injuring her ankle on a Lake District fell.

Penrith Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 4.50pm yesterday to aid the woman who was treated at the scene on Bampton Common, above Haweswater.

Rescuers then stretchered the injured walker to one of its Land Rovers which took her from the fell to a waiting ambulance.

Team leader Mike Hill said: “Yet again this accident was caused by a simple slip, but fortunately it was a lovely evening, which is in stark contrast to other recent incidents.”

The four-hour rescue involved 11 volunteer team members.
