A family of four was rescued after getting stuck on steep ground on a Snowdonia peak.

Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation was called out yesterday, Thursday, about 4.30pm when the group from Bristol called for help from Tryfan.

Initial reports suggested the party might be on the mountain’s West Face.

Chris Lloyd of the team said: “On the last day of their holiday in Snowdonia, they scrambled up the notorious North Ridge of Tryfan. The tops were clear of cloud but there was light drizzle.

“At the North Tower they decided that this might be too much for the children, aged 10 and 14, so sought an alternative route. Finding the access to the Eastern Traverse on the East Face of Tryfan, they were able to continue their ascent.

“However, they became cragfast just before climbing over into the amphitheatre of North Gully. Not wanting to continue and unhappy to re-trace their steps, help was sought via a 999 call.”

Six team members made their way up the North Ridge and on to the Eastern Traverse. Mr Lloyd said: “The family was soon located and guided back down the North Ridge to Oggie Base at Bryn Poeth, arriving at about 8.45pm for a warm up, hot tea and a de-brief.”
