A family of four was rescued after getting stuck on steep ground on a Snowdonia peak.
Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation was called out yesterday, Thursday, about 4.30pm when the group from Bristol called for help from Tryfan.
Initial reports suggested the party might be on the mountain’s West Face.
Chris Lloyd of the team said: “On the last day of their holiday in Snowdonia, they scrambled up the notorious North Ridge of Tryfan. The tops were clear of cloud but there was light drizzle.
“At the North Tower they decided that this might be too much for the children, aged 10 and 14, so sought an alternative route. Finding the access to the Eastern Traverse on the East Face of Tryfan, they were able to continue their ascent.
“However, they became cragfast just before climbing over into the amphitheatre of North Gully. Not wanting to continue and unhappy to re-trace their steps, help was sought via a 999 call.”
Six team members made their way up the North Ridge and on to the Eastern Traverse. Mr Lloyd said: “The family was soon located and guided back down the North Ridge to Oggie Base at Bryn Poeth, arriving at about 8.45pm for a warm up, hot tea and a de-brief.”

04 April 2015Hey I know lets use the last day of our holiday to take the kids onto one of the most iconic scrambles in adverse weather conditions and then as a big surprise we will take them on a traverse to the most dangerous face of the mountain.
Itll make a great how i spent my holiday essay at school.
Stay safe out there folks.

04 April 2015The unknown specifics of this incident set aside:
The powers (whoever they are and whatever their motivation) who are in the business of vigorously encouraging people out onto the hills should stop this marketing.
Let people find their own way to the hills, if they so wish and at their own pace.

28 July 2017It often suprises me the way guides and magazines can get the balance wrong re encouragement/caution narrative. Most of the time it seems to assume that you remain on the chosen course or are experienced enough to not panic of you get into difficulties. Tryfan is currently being hail as the 'most fun' moutain and as a result far too many people are finding a starting point and just wandering up hopine that if they keep moving upwards they'll get to the top.
