Rescuers are asking walkers to be on the lookout for a missing dog after its owner had to be stretchered from a mountain.

Boxer Jax could not be found by Arrochar Mountain Rescue Team members after they went to the aid of the man who slipped and fell on fresh snow on Ben Vane on Sunday.

The team was called out at 1.45pm and a Royal Navy Sea King helicopter flew to the scene. The aircraft crew could not winch the injured man from the site but was able to airlift rescuers lower down the hill.

After walking to the man, the Arrochar team members treated his injuries and stretchered him down steep, slippery ground to a safer area from where the helicopter crew was able to winch the man from the mountain and fly him to hospital.

A team spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, despite a search, an accompanying dog could not be located.

“If you are on Ben Vane please keep a look out for the boxer dog whose name is Jax.”
