Two walkers were rescued from a Lake District mountain after getting lost in low cloud.

Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 6.15pm yesterday, Monday, when the man and woman reported themselves lost on the Old Man of Coniston.

The pair had been unable to retrace their steps. The team used mobile phone technology to pinpoint the pair’s position near the top of Buck Pike, south of Dow Crag, which Coniston MRT said was some distance from their supposed location.

A team spokesperson said: “Although uninjured they were very cold and wet. They were given warm clothing, some food and walked down to the team’s vehicles on the Walna Scar track.”

The rescue involved 19 volunteer team members.
