A mountain rescuer will climb the height of Everest on his local peak to raise funds for his team.

Coniston Mountain Rescue Team member Lee Harris will be joined by fellow Scout leader Lesley McCartney on the venture, with cash raised split between the rescue team and the 1st Hawkshead Scout group, of which both are leaders.

The pair will make 14 ascents of the 803m (2,635ft) Old Man of Coniston, to equal Everest’s height of 8,848m (29,029ft).

The rescuer team member and his co-worker will begin the challenge on 11 May.

There are also sponsor sheets in various outlets in Coniston. Donations can also be posted to the team’s base at Old Furness Road, Coniston LA 21 8HU marking the donations Lee & Lesley’s sponsored Everest Walk.
