Missing walker Stephen Russell is believed to be on the West Highland Way

Police searching for a walker missing from the Isle of Skye said they now believe he may walking the West Highland Way.

Stephen Russell has not been seen for more than a week and officers said there is concern for his wellbeing.

The 43-year-old was last seen on the Blaven Road in Portree on Tuesday 9 June.

Police Scotland said: “It is believed Stephen may be walking the West Highland Way.”

He is described as 5ft 10ins (1.78m), of slim build and with a shaved head and black beard. The police spokesperson said: “Stephen usually wears a beanie-type hat and a blue waterproof jacket and carries walking gear. He may also be wearing sunglasses.”

The 154km (96-mile) West Highland Way is Scotland’s most popular long-distance route and runs from Milngavie on the northern fringe of Glasgow to Fort William in Lochaber.

Anyone with information on Mr Russell’s whereabouts is asked to contact police on 101.
