A walker was airlifted from a Lake District fell after collapsing with chest pains.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was alerted at 5pm on Thursday when the 56-year-old from Holland got into difficulties near the summit of Hay Stacks.

The Great North Air Ambulance also flew to the scene. A spokesperson for the GNAA service said: “He was assessed and treated by the GNAA doctor and paramedic and found to be suffering a heart attack.

“With the assistance of Cockermouth MRT he was moved to the aircraft and flown for specialist treatment at the cardiac centre at Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.”

The three-hour rescue involved 24 Cockermouth MRT volunteers.
