A walker was rescued after suffering serious injuries in a fall at a Pennine beauty spot.

Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team was called out on Sunday after being alerted by ambulance staff to a 60-year-old man who fell ‘a considerable distance’ at Hardcastle Crags near Hebden Bridge.

Rescuers said the walker suffered a puncture wound to his abdomen and possible pelvic injuries in the fall, near Gibson Mill.

The team sent three vehicles and 18 volunteer members to the incident. Tim Ingram of Calder Valley SRT said: “Once on-scene the casualty was packaged in a vacuum mattress and evacuated on the Bell stretcher to the road ambulance for onward journey to hospital.”

The rescue lasted almost 2½ hours.
