A new Scottish running event aims to put the European feel into the scene.

Organisers of the Glasgow Trailrunning Festival Pop-Up say the event is a new concept for the UK, with a range of activities based around the sport.

They said with its programme of films, workshops, races and speakers, experienced trailrunners and those new to the sport will not be short of inspiration and motivation to get out onto the trails.

And for those who can’t resist the urge to race, there will be two unique ‘Strava Races’, a 5km and a half marathon. “These will be entirely self-sufficient with participants completing the course in their own time throughout the day, while tracking their efforts using the Strava app on their smartphone,” a spokesperson said.

Festival director Ryan Scott said: “We wanted to bring a European feel to the Scottish trailrunning scene.

“In France, where we’ve raced on a number of occasions, events are about much more than just the races. Whole towns and villages are involved, creating an amazing atmosphere for runners, spectators and villagers alike.

“We want to share our amazing sport with as many people as possible to inspire them to get out onto the trails, whether they are ultrarunners, trailrunners, urban runners, injured runners or non-runners.”

Festival strategic adviser Jo Cowper said: “Trailrunning in Scotland’s beautiful outdoors is the perfect antidote to modern life.

“You don’t have to run far, or fast, or even frequently to gain real pleasure from lacing up your trainers and hitting the trails, and if we can encourage more people to do just that, the festival will have been a success.”

Glasgow Trailrunning Festival Pop-Up will take place at Mugdock Country Park, just north of Glasgow on Saturday 26 September and will be attended by Donnie Campbell, ex-Royal Marine Commando, ultrarunner and running coach, and Shona Thomson, the first Scottish woman to run a marathon on every continent.

There will also be workshops on downhill skills with Donnie Campbell. Cani-Fit will provide free cani-cross sessions and kit demos for those who would like to try running with their dogs and there will be guided runs and free product testing from shoe manufacturer Hoka One One.

Trails in Motion, a 2½-hour collection of trailrunning films from around the world will be screened in Scotland for just the second time.
