The man broke his leg while walking on the limestone pavement at the top of Malham Cove

A walker was airlifted from a Yorkshire Dales beauty spot after breaking his leg.

The Clapham-based Cave Rescue Organisation was called out about 12.50pm on Sunday when the 28-year-old man slipped on the limestone pavement at the top of Malham Cove.

Ambulance paramedics treated the man at the scene and he was then stretchered to an air ambulance by CRO volunteers.

It was the 57th rescue of the year for the team, which goes to the aid those in need both on the fells of the Yorkshire Dales and in the caves of the area.
