Two walkers were airlifted from Snowdonia mountains after injuring themselves in separate incidents.

Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation was alerted about 3pm on Tuesday after a man in his mid-60s stumbled and fell on to his face while walking on Glyder Fach.

Chris Lloyd of the rescue team said: “He suffered lacerations to his face and an injury to his hand.

“The team leader requested the assistance of the Coastguard’s S-92 helicopter. This was granted and within less than an hour, the casualty and colleague were delivered to hospital in Bangor by Bristow’s helicopter.

“While the casualty was being treated, a team member collected the colleague, returning him to their car in the Ogwen valley.” It was, said Mr Lloyd, ‘an unfortunate accident’.

The team was called out to a similar incident later in the afternoon, when a man in his early 70s was descending with a friend into Cwm Bochlwyd after a trip up Tryfan.

Mr Lloyd said: “He too suffered nasty lacerations to his face. His colleague dressed the injuries and the two continued slowly down the mountain side. However, progress was very slow, partly due to the reduced visibility of the casualty – it is not easy to bandage a severely lacerated nose.

“The 999 call was made. Two team members arrived on scene at the same time as the Coastguard’s S-92 helicopter. In the meantime, team members were gathering at Oggie Base in case there was need of a stretcher carry.

“The casualty was examined and treated before being winched on board the Bristow helicopter and flown down to hospital in Bangor.”

Team members accompanied the other walker to the Idwal car park, with the rescue concluding about 8pm.
