The body was found on Fleetwith Pike

Rescuers searching for a walker missing on the Lake District fells have found a body.

Three teams and six search dogs and handlers were called out to look for the man, who had not been seen since 30 September.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team, along with colleagues from the Keswick team and members of the Cumbria Ore Mines Rescue Unit, joined the search after the walker’s car was found half way down Honister Pass.

Rescuers and members of the Lake District Mountain Rescue Search Dogs Association scoured large areas of Fleetwith Pike, Haystacks, Dale Head, and areas towards Great Gable on Sunday.

A Keswick MRT spokesperson said: “The missing man’s body was discovered on Fleetwith Pike, and evacuated off the hill by Cockermouth MRT.”

The search lasted just over five hours and 12 Keswick team members and three of its dog handlers were involved in the operation.
