Rescuers are continuing the search for a walker who has gone missing in Glen Coe.

Search dogs and police officers are joining members of Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team this weekend as they try to find Robin Garton, who has not been seen for two weeks.

Rescuers and police divers scoured the area around the River Coe earlier in the week in an attempt to find the 69-year-old from Devizes in Wiltshire, whose car was found in the Achnambeithach car park.

Police Scotland’s south Highland area commander Brian Mackay said: “This weekend brings the start of the October school holidays so it is predicted Glencoe and the surrounding areas will see an increase in hillwalkers and visitors.

“Officers are appealing to those planning to visit the area to consider the appeal for information and report anything that may assist the search, no matter how insignificant they may feel it to be, to police on 101.”

Mr Garton is described as 6ft 2in (1.88m) in height, of slim to medium build. He has fair hair which is slightly balding and occasionally wears glasses. Police said they do not know what he was wearing.

He checked out of the Kingshouse Hotel in Glencoe at around 8am on Friday 25 September. Officers found Mr Garton’s black Volkswagen Passat estate car off the A82 by Loch Achtriochtan. It is believed Mr Garton may have had made plans to walk in the Stob Coire Nam Beith or Bidean Nam Bian areas.

Mr Garton’s family said in a statement: “We are extremely grateful to members of the emergency services and search and rescue personnel who have been helping in the search for Robin.

“We are increasingly desperate to find him. Somebody will have seen have seen him on the morning of 25 September and we would appeal to anyone in the area that day to rack their brains. Alternatively, do you know of others that were walking that day who might have seen him?

“We’d like to appeal to anyone who saw Robin or may have spoken to him to please get in touch with the police on 101. Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, may assist in bringing Robin home to his wife and children.”
