A Coastguard helicopter has joined the search for three walkers missing overnight in the Lowther Hills in Dumfries and Galloway.

George Crosbie, 73, Jeffrey Stewart, 74, and 64-year-old Bobby Thomson failed to return from a walk in the hills near Durisdeer on Tuesday.

A search by Moffat Mountain Rescue Team began yesterday evening but was suspended about 2am.

The operation to find the three walkers resumed this morning. Galloway, Tweed Valley and Police Scotland Mountain Rescue Team have joined the search for the men, along with Search and Rescue Dogs Association handlers and their animals.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Anyone with any information or sightings of the three is asked to call us on 101.”
