The Glen Coe discovery is the second within a week. On Thursday a walker found the body of Jim Robertson in the Cairngorms.

The Glasgow man had been missing in the area since early March.

The discovery was made on Thursday evening in the Loch Etchechan, north of the Bob Scott Bothy where Mr Robertson is believed to have stayed.

Four other walkers are still missing in the Highlands. Goffredo Bondanelli has not been seen for more than two weeks, after he embarked on a wild-camping trip in Lochaber.

Police Scotland said the 56-year-old was last seen in Fort William on 3 May boarding a train to Lochailort before undertaking a five-day 76km (47-mile) walk which should have returned him to Glenfinnan on 8 May.

Mr Bondanelli would have been camping out on nearby hills and munros during this five day period at sites including Coire na Cnamha, Lochan Fèith Easain and Sgùrr an Utha, police said.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We believe that Mr Bondanelli may have boarded a train on 8 May from Glenfinnan to Arrochar, Argyll.

“However, he may have disembarked elsewhere, possibly intending to walk near Loch Katrine and Callander or the Isle of Arran.

“It has been several days since Mr Bondanelli has been seen or heard from, and police want to ensure he is safe and well.”

Mr Bondanelli is described as about 5ft 8ins (1.73m) tall, of an athletic build with dark and grey hair, and a greying beard. He is carrying a large rucksack with camping equipment and is believed to be wearing dark outdoor clothing.

Anyone who may have seen him in these areas, or has any other useful information, should contact Police on 101.

Tom Brown and Eric Cyl failed to return from trips in the Steall area of Lochaber and Robin Garton went missing in Glen Coe last summer.
