A walker was airlifted from a Lake District fell after injuring herself in a fall.

The woman, in her 80s, slipped and suffered suspected back injuries on the bridge near Burnmoor Tarn, west of Scafell.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team was alerted about 1.10pm on Sunday and the Great North Air Ambulance was scrambled and flew to the scene.

The helicopter reached the injured walker before the rescue team arrived and the crew doctor and paramedic assessed and treated her before she was flown to a waiting ambulance at Wasdale Head.

She was then taken to West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven, where her condition on arrival was described as comfortable.
