A leading outdoors brand has announced an antidote for anyone flagging after the consumer excesses of the upcoming Black Friday.

Berghaus is offering 1,000 prizes to people who can solve clues and locate four of its flags placed in the outdoors during the weekend after the 25 November date.

The Sunderland-based brand said it will not be discounting its products on Black Friday but will instead be encouraging people to join in the Get Out Game to win gear, including top prizes of Extrem Micro Down jackets for the first five explorers to find each of the four flags, which will be planted by Berghaus staff at sites in Scotland, England and Wales.

The company will post clues to all those who sign up for the competition via its website in the run-up to the event, culminating the final piece of information being revealed on 25 November. It said it will be offering hundreds of prizes, with 1,000 people able to claim their reward on the Saturday 26 November.

Richard Leedham, Berghaus brand president, said: “Black Friday has become a phenomenon that now seems to last a whole weekend, but this is not a development that reflects the values we hold dear at Berghaus.

“Rather than indulge in the discount shopping mayhem, we think that a healthier alternative – for body and soul – is to explore the outdoors. We appreciate that some people might need an incentive to do that, which is where the Get Out Game comes in.

“There are no catches in this. It’s simply an initiative that will take everyone who participates on a journey into the outdoors that will provide rewards. Berghaus kit will be part of those rewards, but we hope that the biggest prizes that people take home are wonderful memories about great experiences in fantastic places.”

The four areas in the event are Loch Lomond, the Brecon Beacons, the South Downs and Peak District.

Outdoor enthusiasts can sign up for the Get Out Game through the Berghaus website.
