A Pokémon hunter had to be rescued after injuring herself in a fall in woods during her search for the virtual creatures.

Rescuers warned those venturing into the outdoors for whatever reason to be properly equipped.

Edale Mountain Rescue Team was called out on Wednesday to Linacre Wood near Chesterfield at the request of ambulance staff.

The Chesterfield woman, in her mid-20s, slipped and tumbled in the woodland, suffering ankle, back, neck and elbow injuries. The rescue team said she was also hypothermic by the time she was found.

Duty team leader Ed Proudfoot said: “When the Team arrived members of the ambulance service had managed to gain access on the steep ground to give pain relief. However they required the team’s specialist immobilisation and evacuation equipment as well as manpower to get the woman out of the tricky spot.

“Due to the nature of the suspected injuries, team members handled the extraction and carefully transferred the casualty in a controlled lift to our full body splint, pelvic binder and stretcher before carrying back up to the ambulance parked at the visitors’ centre.

“To ensure sufficient numbers, we were assisted by members of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team.”

The unlucky Pokémon hunter was then taken by ambulance to the major trauma centre at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield for assessment and treatment.

Mr Proudfoot said: “We’d like to remind and encourage people enjoying the outdoors to be mindful of the terrain and weather conditions they might encounter, especially this time of year.

“Proper footwear, waterproofs clothing and equipment can make the outdoor experience much more enjoyable, not to mention safer.”
