The trust's motto is: challenging disability through outdoor adventure

A charity that provides outdoor activities for people with disabilities will benefit from fundraising activities by aficionados of Alfred Wainwright.

The Wainwright Society has named the Lake District Calvert Trust as its main charity beneficiary for 2020.

Money will be raised from donations by society members taking part in the annual charity challenge, together with sale proceeds of the 2021 calendar.

Cash raised will be used to provide a bursary to enable those otherwise unable to experience a residential break at the trust’s centre near Bassenthwaite. The breaks enable people with physical, learning and sensory disabilities, including those with the most complex needs for which most outdoor centres cannot cater, to benefit from outdoor activities.

Jennifer Scott, the trust’s fundraising manager, said: “As a charity we are entirely dependent on non-government funding and we rely on the generosity offered by those who believe in our cause.

“The Lake District Calvert Trust genuinely could not continue to offer the standard of service we currently do, or ensure we remain affordable to our visitors, without funding support. For that reason we are extremely grateful to the continued support from The Wainwright Society and for being chosen as the main beneficiary for its fund raising in 2020.”

The Wainwright Society aims to promote the values of the late guidebook author and illustrator Alfred Wainwright, most famed for his series of Pictorial Guides to the Lakeland Fells.
