A 64-year-old walker collapsed and died on a Lakeland fell.
The man was walking with his wife when he slumped to the ground on Little Castle How, between Great Langdale and Easedale. A member of the Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team, who was walking in the area, went to his aid after being alerted by the an ambulance crew.
Resuscitation was unsuccessful, and the man’s body was airlifted to the valley by the helicopter crew, along with his wife.
- Police were alerted yesterday by a Duddon Valley farmer who found a frozen body on the fellside at Black Hall, Seathwaite, near Broughton in Furness.
A spokesman for Cumbria Constabulary described the man, who was found just after noon yesterday, as ‘encased in two inches of ice’. Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team helped police recover the body. The spokesman continued: “At this time, police are satisfied there are no suspicious circumstances.”
Enquiries are underway to try to identify the man.
