A ten-year-old boy and his father survived a fall on Helvellyn today.
The pair tumbled 60m (200ft) after slipping in freezing conditions. Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team went to the aid of the walkers at Red Tarn, at the foot of Striding Edge. They were then airlifted by a rescue helicopter from RAF Boulmer and taken to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.

The boy has head injuries and his father suffered back, leg and arm injuries. They were with three other walkers when the incident happened.
