A man has died after collapsing near a Yorkshire Dales Cave.

The 45-year-old was accompanying a group of young people at the entrance to Thistle Cave at Ribblehead.

The group was about to go underground to explore the system on Monday.

The Cave Rescue Organisation was called out about 1.40pm and its members joined paramedics and fire and rescue crews at the scene.

A team spokesperson said: “There were prolonged attempts to revive him by cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but when paramedics arrived, by road and air ambulance, they determined that life was extinct.

“Once the necessary protocols had been followed, CRO members carried the deceased to a roadhead for handover to an undertaker.”
