Injured students airlifted from Snowdon

Two students were rescued from Snowdon yesterday after a fall near Crib Goch.A Sea King helicopter from RAF Valley on Anglesey winched the two 19-year olds to safety and they were taken to Ysbyty Gwynned, Bangor, with back and leg injuries.Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) joined three members from RAF Valley’s MRT who also took part in the rescue.

A British doctor has died after a climbing accident in Spain.Ian Burnell died after an 80ft fall while rock climbing near Alicante, in the South of the country.

Locked Boquhan gates send local up the wall

A Stirlingshire woman told a court she was driven up the wall at being locked out of a millionaire’s estate.Marian McGloin said when she found the gates to Euan Snowie’s Boquhan House grounds locked, she resorted to climbing the wall.

Councillors in South Armagh say the bodies of dead animals dumped at a beauty spot pose a hazard to health.The carcasses of sheep and cows were illegally left in the Slieve Gullion area and risk contaminating streams and farms in the district.

Welsh ospreys produce chick

Birdwatchers in Wales are celebrating the birth of a rare chick.The only breeding pair of ospreys in the principality hatched a chick late last night, with the event being captured on a 24-hour camera.While the Welsh ospreys can’t match the three-in-a-nest shenanigans of their Scottish cousins at Loch Garten, they have successfully produced one offspring from their clutch of three eggs.

Helicopter rescue for injured Snowdonia walker

An RAF helicopter flew an injured walker from a Snowdonia ridge yesterday evening.The unnamed man, from Surrey, fell while walking on the Nantlle Ridge in the West of the national park.The 58-year-old walker suffered a head injury and broken hand in the accident.

Everest medics treat climber left for dead

The team of doctors conducting high-altitude medical experiments on Everest was involved in helping save a stricken climber.Usha Bistra, a Nepalese climber, was found by Canadian Meagan McGrath high on the mountain after reportedly having been abandoned by her leader after she collapsed attempting to summit.She was brought down by Ms McGrath and fellow mountaineers and treated for cerebral oedema – swelling of the brain, a common symptom of acute mountain sickness.

Nevis climbers survive night on Tower Ridge

Three young climbers survived a night on Ben Nevis’s Tower Ridge after becoming disoriented.They were rescued by members of Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) after a Royal Navy helicopter located them late yesterday evening, but was unable to land.
