A woman and her daugher slept on the Cumbrian fells as a massive search operation went on around them last night.
The two walkers, one in her eighties and another in her fifties, were reported missing by staff at the Eskdale campsite where they were staying, after they failed to return from a trip to the summit of Scafell.
A mountain rescue team has urged walkers to be on their guard against heat exhaustion as Britain goes on to heatwave alert.
The warning came from Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team after they dealt with two casualties who suffered medical problems in the weekend heat. Exceptionally high temperatures, up to 17C on the Lakeland summits, are forecast for the coming week, along with high humidity.
A man has died after a fall on the Cuillin on Skye.
Police were alerted to the incident at 2.50pm yesterday, Friday. Skye Mountain Rescue Team went to the man’s aid and the Stornoway Coastguard helicopter joined the rescuers.

Law Lords have turned down a quarry operator’s bid to appeal against a landmark ruling in the Peak District.
The national park authority expressed its delight at the decision, which it hopes will end what it calls the excessive extraction of limestone at Backdale quarry on Longstone Edge. It says it will now closely monitor the limited quarrying of rare minerals at the site.
