The woman in a mini skirt was last seen heading for Stoodley Pike

Walkers are being asked to be on the lookout for a young woman seen out on the Yorkshire moors in a mini skirt and fishnet stockings.

West Yorkshire Police today said they are continuing the search for the woman, which started after a member of the public reported seeing the woman about 9.20pm yesterday, Friday, on the Calderdale moors near Stoodley Pike. The moors were lashed yesterday by torrential rain and high winds.

Members of Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team have been working with officers in the hunt for the missing woman since being alerted last night. West Yorkshire Police’s helicopter is also being used to search for the inappropriately dressed walker, but say there has been no sign of her. Police dogs are also being used in the operation.

The woman was spotted between Withens Clough Reservoir and the monument at Stoodley Pike, which stands at 400m (1,312ft) overlooking Hebden Bridge.

She is described as white, about 19 years old and wearing a black mini skirt, hooded top and fishnet tights. A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “Officers on the ground have carried out a search for the woman and the police helicopter has also been used but there has been no sign of her.

Enquiries are also being made with local hospitals, youth hostels and taxi firms in the area to see if anyone fitting her description has been seen

Chief Inspector Mark Allsop, who is leading the investigation said: “The longer it takes for us to find the woman the more concerns are growing for her welfare.

“We know that the area is frequented by courting couples and we are concerned that a couple may have been up there and had an argument, which may have caused this young woman to wander away. If this is the case we need them to get in touch with police as soon as possible to let us know they are ok.

“We are using all available resources to find her, but as yet we have had no further sightings.

“I would appeal to the girl, if she has managed to get herself home or to a place of safety please contact police, you are not in trouble.”

Anyone with information about the woman is asked to contact Halifax Police Station on 0845 6060 606.
