A climber was airlifted from a Highland mountain after suffering serious injuries in a fall.

Police were alerted about 2.20pm yesterday, Sunday, after the incident on Cairn Gorm.

The man was reported to have fallen in Coire an t-Sneachda in the Northern Corries.

Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team went to the aid of the climber and a Sea King search and rescue helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth flew to the scene.

The man was found and treated at the scene before being airlifted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

A Northern Constabulary spokesperson said his injuries were serious but not life threatening.

In February, walker Graham Connell, 31, of Castleford, West Yorkshire, died after falling on Jacob’s Ladder in Coire an t-Sneachda. His death followed that of Jack Wooding of East London who fell on Aladdin’s Mirror in the corrie.

Three other climbers were injured in an avalanche the same month in Coire an t-Sneachda.
