The woman slipped on the descent of Pen-y-ghent

A runner in the Three Peaks Race was stretchered from the hillside after slipping and suffering a suspected broken ankle.

The 60-year-old woman fell on the descent from Pen-y-ghent, the first hill tackled by the racers.

The Cave Rescue Organisation was called out shortly after 11.15am on Saturday and volunteer members went to the site near the finger post on the path between the summit and Hunt Pot.

One of the team’s doctors treated the runner at the scene and she was then stretchered down the fell to a CRO vehicle which took her to a waiting ambulance in Horton in Ribblesdale.
