The walkers became disoriented on the summit of Ben Nevis

Rescuers have suspended a search for two walkers missing on Britain’s highest mountain.

Police said the operation to find the pair who became disoriented in bad weather yesterday on Ben Nevis will resume at first light today, Saturday.

Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team mounted a search after the walkers got lost on the 1,344m (4,409ft) summit.

The Mountain Weather Information Service is forecasting frequent snow showers with possible whiteouts and winds up to 60mph, with a windchill on summits of –16C.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said no further details of the missing walkers were available at present.
