A walker was rescued from a Lake District fell after injuring her leg.

The 32-year-old woman was helped by fellow walkers after she twisted her knee while coming down the steep rocky path on Birkside, between Nethermost Pike and Wythburn yesterday.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 3.50pm to the incident. A team spokesperson said she had aggravated a previous injury.

“Some other walkers managed to carry her down some distance, but the steepness of the zigzags required help from the team, which lowered her down, using ropes on the steepest sections,” the spokesperson said.

She was then taken by ambulance to Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, for further treatment.

The 3½-hour rescue involved 14 volunteer Keswick MRT members.
