The police helicopter flew the walker to hospital after she suffered chest pains near Glossop

A walker was rescued after suffering a suspected broken leg on a Peak District route.

The 61-year-old woman fell while coming down a steep track near Loftend Quarry, above Crowden, on Sunday.

Glossop Mountain Rescue Team was called out and its 13 volunteers were joined by six colleagues from the Woodhead team in the operation.

Peter Jozefczyk of Glossop MRT said: “She was treated on scene by the team for a suspect lower left leg fracture and transported by the team ambulance down to Crowden, where she was transferred to a waiting North West Ambulance Service ambulance.”

The Glossop team was also called out to an incident on the western edge of the Peak District national park the previous Thursday.

A woman in her 20s complained of chest pains while walking between Broadbottom and Combs Edge.

Mr Jozefczyk said: “The woman was located by Greater Manchester Police helicopter behind Moorside Farm, Higher Chisworth. She was treated on scene by a NWAS paramedic and taken to Wythenshawe Hospital in the police helicopter.”
