The pair were said to be cragfast on Striding Edge, a grade-one scramble

Rescuers were called out to help two walkers who were reported to be stuck on a Lake District ridge.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was alerted by a walker on Helvellyn who said two women on Striding Edge were struggling with the terrain.

The walker reported the pair seemed to be cragfast, unable to either go up or down.

A team spokesperson said: “With the shorter day light hours the team quickly responded.

“As the team was ascending the path to Striding Edge, they met two ladies coming down who matched the description of the cragfast pair. The ladies had managed to make their way slowly off Striding Edge.

“The Team then escorted them down safely to the village of Glenridding.”
