A Spanish gear company has issued a recall notice on three of its snow anchor models.

The recall affects a certain batch of Fixe’s snow picket and the company’s snow anchors or deadmen.

The firm said it has found a production defect that could mean the safety of users is seriously affected. The models are used in winter mountaineering and climbing to provide belay anchors.

A statement from the Barcelona company said: “We would like to inform you a production defect we’ve detected on a particular batch of snow anchors and snow pickets, which can affect to the security of these products.

“For this reason we’ve decided to remove the products from the market.”

The models affected by the recall are: Snow Anchor Fixe reference number 020, batch number 01/10; Snow Anchor Fixe reference number 021, batch number 06/10; Snow Anchor Fixe reference number 430, batch numbers 12/10 and 01/11.

Batch numbers can be found on the deadmen on the top right part of the plate, and on the snow picket on the inside of the equipment next to the technical specifications.

Climbers and mountaineers should stop using the affected gear immediately and contact the company via its website to arrange a replacement.

Retailers are also being asked to remove the models in question from sale.

A Fixe spokesperson said: “We would like convey our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this problem may cause and our determination to resolve this problem as soon as possible.”
