The talks will provide expert advice for anyone heading for Scotland's hills in winter

With the Scottish winter in full swing, there’s the chance to get some valuable safety tips from four experts in a series of free talks.

Glencoe’s Clachaig Inn is the venue for the Mammut-sponsored lectures next month.

Speakers at the Tuesday talks include three members of mountain rescue teams, plus an avalanche training expert.

The series kicks off on 4 February with a talk on Glencoe’s winter hills by Andy Nelson, deputy team leader of Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team and a British Mountain Guide.

The following week, Lochaber MRT member and BMG Mike Pescod will talk about preparing for Scottish Winter Hills.

Davy Gunn’s 18 February lecture will be on avalanches and psychology, and the talks end the following week with Richard Bentley’s hints on safe, quick and efficient travel in the winter hills.

The lectures, which start at 8pm in the Bidean lounge, are free but for a £1 donation visitors will be entered into a weekly prize draw with Mammut prizes, courtesy of fellow sponsors Nevisport.

Proceeds will be shared between the Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team and the Glencoe Avalanche Transceiver Park.

Booking is not essential, but is advised. Contact the pub on 01855 811252.
