Police and rescuers searching for a missing kayaker in the Highlands have found a body.

Northern Constabulary confirmed that, following a search which started at 9am this morning, the body of a woman has been found and recovered.

Members of the Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team, a helicopter crew from HMS Gannet and Coastguard volunteers had been searching for the woman, believed to be in her 20s and from northern England, since the alarm was raised when she capsized and became separated from the rest of the party on the River Coe near the Clachaig Inn in Glencoe.

A spokesperson for Northern Constabulary said: “No further details regarding the identity of the woman will be released until formal identification has taken place.”
