Two walkers had to be rescued from a Lake District fell after they got lost and strayed on to steep ground.

The pair, in their 20s, called for help from High Crag above Buttermere yesterday.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 5.50pm and 23 volunteer members were involved in the rescue of the walkers from the 744m (2,442ft) mountain.

A team spokesperson said: “They were located by the team and walked safely off the hill.”
