Two walkers were helped to safety by rescuers after getting into difficulties on a Lake District mountainside as night fell.

The two women rang for help on Friday evening from Blea Crags on Robinson.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was alerted about 7pm.

A team spokesperson said: “Two females on a circular walk around the Newlands fells became benighted.

“With a loss of confidence on difficult ground they did the right thing and called for help.

“A small team was dispatched and the females were assisted to safety using a short rope before being walked off the fell back to the valley.”

The three-hour rescue involved six Keswick MRT volunteers.
