A walker was airlifted from Great Gable after suffering head injuries in a fall.

The Great North Air Ambulance was scrambled to go to the aid of the Devon woman, in her 50s, at 12.45pm today.

The helicopter landed on the 899m (2,949ft) mountain and a doctor and paramedic from the crew assessed and treated the woman at the scene.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team was also called out and stood by at Wasdale Head in case they were needed.

The walker was then flown to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle for further treatment.
