Rescuers went to the aid of two mountain bikers in separate incidents in the Lake District.

Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was called out on Saturday to aid a rider who fell from her bike near Monk Coniston.

The team was alerted about 4.40pm to the incident involving a 25-year-old from the South of England.

A Coniston MRT spokesperson said: “The team was able to drive to the casualty and treat her for leg and elbow injuries. She was transported back to the team’s HQ in Coniston and transferred to a land ambulance from North West Ambulance Service.”

Eight volunteer team members took part in the rescue.

The following day, six Coniston MRT were involved in a callout to help a mountain biker lost in thick woodland in Grizedale Forest.

The team spokesperson said: “The team located the gentleman with some assistance from his own smartphone and verbal description of his route to being misplaced.

“He was reunited with the track and he continued on his cycling trip.

“These incidents are part of what is transpiring to be a relatively busy year for the Coniston team, with incidents up approximately 45 per cent compared to 2014.

“We’d just like to remind people that while accidents do happen, however experienced you may be, there is no substitute for being properly prepared for whatever adventure it is you’re undertaking.”
