A walker has died after being airlifted from a Highland mountain.

The 61-year-old man from Fife collapsed and was injured near the summit of the Cairngorms munro Beinn Bhrotain today.

Police were alerted about 1pm and Braemar Mountain Rescue Team was called out to the 1,157m (3,796ft) mountain.

An RAF search and rescue Sea King helicopter also flew to the site and airlifted the walker to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness but he was pronounced dead.

The man was with two adults and six teenagers when the incident happened.

Police Scotland said none of the other walkers was injured.

They were helped from the mountain by the Braemar team which used its Land Rover to bring them to safety.
