Rescuers went to the aid of a walker who was suspected of having heart difficulties while on a Lake District route.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was called out on Saturday when the 57-year-old woman complained of pains the team said indicated a heart problem.

The woman was walking on the shore path round Buttermere when the incident happened. An air ambulance also flew to the scene.

A team spokesperson said: “The lady was treated at the scene and evacuated by the team to the waiting land ambulance at Gatesgarth Farm.

“She was transferred to Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.”

The rescue involved 14 volunteers from the Cockermouth team.
