The head of Scotland’s avalanche forecast service has died following an illness.

Blyth Wright was also a renowned mountaineer who worked at both the Glenmore Lodge national outdoor training centre and the Loch Eil Centre, run by the Outward Bound Trust.

Mr Wright was co-ordinator of the sportscotland Avalanche Information Service which has evolved since its inception in 1988 into a comprehensive forecasting and recording service for mountaineers, climbers and hillwalkers during the Scottish winter season.

He also co-authored a book A Chance in a Million with Bob Barton.
