A second body has been found following an avalanche on Ben Nevis.

Members of the Lochaber and RAF Leuchars Mountain Rescue Teams found the remains of the second climber after a body was found earlier, following reports from a member of the public that two people had been swept away in a large avalanche on the mountain’s north face.

The bodies were found in Number Three Gully.

A spokesperson for the Northern Constabulary said: “At this time we do not have information regarding the age or sex of the individuals and formal identification will take place once next of kin have been informed.

“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.”

The spokesperson said the avalanche was several hundred metres in length.
