Aberglaslyn MRT members are after public support for their fundraising

A north Wales mountain rescue team is appealing for help from the public.

The Porthmadog-based Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team is on the lookout for new recruits to its recently formed supporters group.

The team is particularly interested in people who have non-mountain skills to help it in publicity and fundraising.

The 35-strong team hopes to call on support-group members to help out with their fundraising events, including publicising events, selling raffle tickets and raising valuable funds for the team.

Secretary Gethin Edwards said: “It’s a great way for you to be involved in the team’s activities and support the invaluable work of mountain rescue in whatever way you can.

“It costs over £6,000 to keep the team operational each year, and we are funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions.

“If you have a non-mountain skill you think may be of use – perhaps IT skills, public relations or journalistic experience – we would love to hear from you.

“As a member you will receive a membership card entitling you to discount in some equipment shops, a t-shirt and a car sticker.

“You will also receive a newsletter every quarter with information on the team’s news, incidents and upcoming events.”

Anyone interested in joining the support group is asked to visit the team’s website or email Mr Edwards.
