Rescuers were called out in the early hours of Thursday when a group of wild campers got into difficulties on a Lake District fell.

Police alerted Keswick Mountain Rescue Team to the incident about 3.40am after the campers called for help.

A team spokesperson said the six people were cold and wet after their tents succumbed to high winds and heavy rainfall.

Team members made their way from Stonethwaite past Tarn at Leaves to reach the campers on Rosthwaite Fell. The spokesperson said they found the group sheltering in the only tent of their three left standing.

“Warm clothes and hot drinks were supplied whilst all their soaking equipment was packed up for the descent,” the spokesperson said. “When one of them asked ‘do you have the camera?’ we enquired if they were making a film.

“As it turns out the six young men are film students on assignment making a documentary about wild camping in the mountains. They might need to rewrite the film script.”

The incident involved 11 Keswick MRT volunteers and lasted just over 6¼ hours.
