A walker was rescued after getting lost in the dark and low cloud in the Yorkshire Dales.

The Clapham-based Cave Rescue Organisation was called out about 5.10pm on Saturday when the 31-year-old reported himself lost.

He set off from Horton in Ribblesdale at 12.40pm to walk the northern stretch of the Ribble Way, but lost his way at Cam Pasture, near Cam Houses.

A rescue team spokesperson said: “A CRO Land Rover was able to drive to within easy walking distance of him, despite the complexity of recent timber extraction routes in Cam Woodlands.

“Cold, but otherwise unharmed, he was returned to Horton.”

It was the team’s 96th incident of 2016.
