A man has died after falling more than 200ft from Sharp Edge on Blencathra.
Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 12.25pm on Thursday.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service’s Helimed 58 helicopter, and the Coastguard search and rescue helicopter based at Prestwick flew to the scene after the man fell 70m from the grade-one scrambling route.
A Keswick MRT member who was already on the mountain made his way to the site above Scales Tarn. The GNAAS helicopter landed nearby and Keswick team members recovered the man’s body to the aircraft, which flew him to the Keswick team base.
A Keswick MRT spokesperson said: “Many thanks to H58, the Coastguard, and to the hill-goers who went to assist.
“Our thoughts and condolences go to the man’s family and friends.”
