The walker became exhausted on the fells above Ullswater

A young walker suffering from exhaustion was airlifted from a Lake District fell.

The walker was reported as drifting in and out of consciousness near Barton Fell overlooking Ullswater.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 4.55pm on Friday after being alerted by police.

A team spokesperson said: “As a precautionary measure North West Ambulance Service mobilised the [Great North] Air Ambulance from Langwathby.

“The young man was assessed on scene before being flown to the Cumberland Infirmary at Carlisle.”

Eleven volunteer Patterdale MRT members were involved in the two-hour rescue.
