The walker injured herself near Cautley Spout

Rescuers have praised an injured walker who slid on a plastic sheet to get herself off a fell.

Kendal Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 4.30pm yesterday to the hillside near Cautley Spout and were joined by colleagues from the Kirkby Stephen team to aid the woman who had injured her ankle.

John Fitch of the Kendal team said: “She had managed to get part way down by sliding down on a plastic sheet.

“When we arrived she was only about 200m from the Cross Keys pub – a great attempt at self-rescue.

“So it was a quick splinting job and short carry-off to the ambulance.”
