A pressure group for national parks in England and Wales has a new head,
Anne Robinson has been elected as chair of the Campaign for National Parks after Kate Ashbrook stood down from the post she held since 2003.
Ms Robinson is vice-chair of the Campaign to Protect Rural England. She lives in the Peak District and is vice-president of the Friends of the Peak District.
Speaking after her election, she said: “In their 60th anniversary year, the national parks of England and Wales have never been more popular, more necessary, or more vulnerable.
“The CNP’s vital work must continue to meet the exciting challenges ahead, be they threats or opportunities, so that everyone can enjoy the national parks.
“Being chair of the CNP is a challenge that I relish, knowing that the CNP has a fine record in campaigning and in support of these extraordinary and magical treasures.”
Outgoing chair Kate Ashbrook said: “I have really enjoyed being chair of the Campaign for National Parks for the last six years and am delighted that Anne is taking over and am confident that she will defend the national parks with campaigning zeal.”
The organisation, formerly the Council for National Parks, adopted its present name just over a year ago. It was changed to avoid confusion with Government-funded bodies and to represent more accurately its role in campaigning to protect and promote national parks for the benefit and quiet enjoyment of all.
